McPherson Police Department, KS - Internship
About the program
We aim to introduce service members to law enforcement by providing to them the same in-house training our newly hired officers get before attending the police academy. This opportunity will also give service members the chance to complete all of our hiring process during the six-week program, allowing us to extend a conditional job offer at the end of the program after meeting all requirements.
What you'll do
McPherson Police Officers are required to enforce all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances; protect the life, property, and peace for the citizens of McPherson; make arrests, serve warrants, and issue citations, operate and maintain law enforcement equipment; perform traffic control and building checks; investigate major crimes; build relationships with the public; and provide credible testimony at any court proceedings. This Skill Bridge opportunity will expose service members to all of these and will prepare you for a successful career in law enforcement.
Eligibility
For the Skill Bridge program, service members must be able to pass an initial background check. To be hired as a law enforcement officer with our department, they must also pass a physical agility test, a written test, and a more in-depth background check before interviewing with the Chief of Police. A Physical, Psychological, and Polygraph test are required prior to a conditional offer of employment.
