About the program

This DoD SkillBridge Fellowship equips transitioning military service members with comprehensive technical competence, jobsite vocabulary, and operational leadership across residential construction. Administered by Livingston Homes LLC, the curriculum spans the complete residential construction cycle—from architectural layout and rough-in framing to mechanical rough-in coordination, interior finish carpentry, and final owner delivery ('Concept to Keys').

What you'll do

Core Curricular Pillars:

  • Jobsite Communication & Laborer Vernacular: Mastery of essential framing, forming, and millwork field slang (e.g., mud sill, cripple, jack/trimmer, king stud, bird's mouth, reveal, coping, deadwood, blocking, sistering, kerf).
  • All-Weather Operational Resilience: Best practices for cold-weather tool lubrication, subfloor water mitigation/squeegeeing, high-wind shear bracing, engineered lumber weatherproofing, and extreme heat pacing.
  • Supervision Progression Model: A phased transition starting from 100% direct 1-on-1 paired mentoring, moving toward semi-autonomous zone assignments, and culminating in fully independent build modules.
  • Cross-Trade Tact & Subcontractor Coordination: Professional, collaborative interfacing with mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), drywall, excavation, and concrete trades without conflict or structural compromise.
  • Customer Relations & Builder Optics: Professional homeowner interaction protocols, site cleanliness standards, change-order boundary discipline, and pre-occupancy walkthrough representation.
