Program Description
Public Service Aids are non-sworn employees of the Roseville Police Department and have no legal or law, enforcement authority beyond that of any normal citizen. PSAs shall not be assigned to duties requiring sworn police officer status or authority. The primary duty of the PSA is the front desk. While on desk duties, Public Service Aids may write police incident reports or supplemental police reports as directed by the on-duty supervisor. The PSA may also be assigned additional duties to maintain the functioning of the police department. Any DOD SkillBridge PSA will be exclusively assigned to desk duties at the Roseville Police Department which is a secure facility. No DOD SkillBridge participant will be placed at risk in situations that may escalate into physically dangerous law enforcement interactions.
Job Description
The Public Service Aide Program provides the employee an opportunity to begin or continue a career in law enforcement by receiving training in various aspects of police work. These duties are diversified and directed toward introducing the PSA to a variety of job requirements and assignments within the police department; designed to give the PSA a well-rounded orientation and appreciation of the law enforcement process, and the duties performed by police officers. This will be accomplished by allowing the PSA to perform work tasks of an administrative and clerical nature along with other tasks that do not require the use of full sworn police authority.
