Mentoring and skills development will be provided and encouraged. The Water Department seeks to develop the candidates into increasingly higher-level positions, including the Water Systems Mechanic I, Water Systems Mechanic II, and Sr. Water Systems Mechanic. As such, opportunities will exist for increased training, responsibility and promotion. The Water Systems Mechanic job responsibilities include:• Perform preventative maintenance, repair and installation on plant structures including piping, engines, blowers, pumps, valves and other assorted water and water treatment and pumping equipment• Cleaning chemical leaks and collect debris• Operate hand tools, welding machine, air compressor, forklift and other equipment• Assist in complex construction projects for large scale plant operation and follow work plans and schedules• Maintains plant maintenance equipment. Adds oil or grease to components as neededMinimum Qualifications: • High school diploma/GED • No experience required• Valid Driver’s LicenseAdditional Qualifications:• Candidates exceeding the minimum requirements will be considered for higher-level positions, including Water Systems Mechanic II and/or Senior Water Systems Mechanic, based on experience and education/training. Additional experience to be considered will include:o Two (2) years or more responsible experience in water/wastewater plant maintenance or related fieldWorking ConditionsDepending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.Physical DemandsHeavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
